John E. “Jet” Thursby III joined the Lake Shore Volunteer Fire Company (LSVFC) in December 1988. In his more than 30 years of service, he has served as President and is currently serving on the Board of Directors and Captain of the Honor Guard. During Jet’s time as an active responder, he rose to the rank of Captain and Emergency Medical Services Coordinator.
As Captain of the world-famous Lake Shore Volunteer Fire Company Honor Guard, Jet trains Honor Guard members in drill and ceremony and coordinates honor guard events such as parades, presentation of colors, and the flag folding during the LSVFC Installation of Officers and Awards Banquet and at the annual Joint Memorial Service during the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association (AACVFA) convention. The Honor Guard has the solemn duty of rendering final honors to our departed members. The Honor Guard’s most significant event is hosting of the Salute to Veterans Dinner each year. Jet is a United States Air Force Veteran who personally coordinates and arranges the ceremony to honor veterans in the Pasadena and the surrounding areas. The dinner honors over 100 invited veterans and their guests.
At the County and State levels, Jet has represented LSVFC as a delegate to the AACVFA and the Maryland State Fireman’s Association.
