Marvin Bladen and Charlie Doegen
Marvin Bladen has served the community of Jessup and the Jessup Volunteer Fire Department for 47-years and is a life member. He is still active in the affairs and operations of the department. He has served in many capacities to include Lieutenant of the ambulance company, President, and is currently serving as Vice President of the Board of Directors.
While serving on the ambulance company for over 28-years, Marvin completed the first EMT class taught at North Arundel Hospital and also completed hospital training at Anne Arundel Hospital, which required attendance one night a week for 6-months. This program was possibly the forerunner of our now paramedic program. He was one of the two members who handled all of the night/early morning ambulance runs which gave him the honor of compiling the most runs (1500) during the existence of our ambulance company.
Marvin assisted in drawing up the specifications for Jessup’s new ambulance (a 1965 Pontiac), which sent him to Philadelphia, PA for inspection of the new ambulance before delivery. He then chaired the committee to pay for the unit, which successfully raised $9,400.00. Marvin also completed the basic firemen’s class as well as basic rescue through then the Maryland Fire Extension Program.
Marvin is a delegate of Jessup to the County Association meetings and is always present.
