SUBJ: NOMINATION OF PAUL G. COGSWELL FOR THE HALL OF FAME AWARD

The Glen Burnie Volunteer Fire Company wishes to submit the name of Paul G. Cogswell for consideration of the Hall of Fame Award. Paul G. Cogswell joined the Glen Burnie Volunteer Fire Company on July 31, 1987.

Paul G. Cogswell is now the Administrative Chief of the Glen Burnie Volunteer Fire Company.

Mr. Paul C. Cogswell has been attracted toward the fire side of the department. In September of 1987, he entered Basic Fire Class and upon successful completion, he then undertook Fire-Arson-Detection class followed by Building Construction Wood and Ordinary.

Paul entered basic EMT-A January 1988 upon graduation, he spent a great deal of his time keeping the engine staffed and on the street. It soon became aware that his skill was needed more on the ambulance and he took the switch to medical side of the department with ease and understanding. He has been sure to keep the ambulance in service as much as possible but has had A339 in service every Friday night from June 1988 until the present time with various partners.

In February 1989 Paul undertook Basic Rescue and Intermediate class taught by Chief Ron Graf.

In 1992, Paul was given the task of keeping L.O.S.A.P records for the company and served until February 2008 for the Glen Burnie Volunteer Fire Company.

In 1996 Paul again went back to the fire side by taking Special Fires and then Managing Company Tactical Ops Decision Making.

In 1997 saw Paul take and successfully complete Firefighter II class. Followed by Aerial Apparatus Operators Truck Company in 1998.

In 1998, Paul G. Cogswell received the Glen Burnie Volunteer President Award for outstanding service to the President, to the company and community.

In 2000, Paul undertook the position of treasurer of the Glen Burnie Volunteer Fire Company while still doing the job of L.O.S.A.P. chair.

In 2004 and again in 2005 Paul G. Cogswell received the Glen Burnie Volunteer President Award for outstanding service to the President, for many additional jobs that he undertook, to the company and the community.

In 2006 saw Paul taking Executive Development: First Alarm Strategy and Tactics.

In 2007 NIMS Incident Command System for the Fire Service.
In 2008 Paul took Fire Officer-I and Fire Service Instructor-I

Since Paul G. Cogswell entered the fire service he has undertook numerous side jobs while maintaining his EMT status and increasing his knowledge of the Fire and Fire Ground Operations. Paul held the title of Company Officer for many positions inside the Glen Burnie Volunteer Fire Company. It is no surprise that he has been recognized as a Glen Burnie Volunteer Fire Officer for the years 1999, 2002, 2005, and 2007.

Mr. Paul G. Cogswell has also been very active in the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighter’s Association. Mr. Cogswell held the position of LOSAP chair from 1994-2000. He also held the position of Treasurer for the Association from 1992-1995. He held the positions while still maintaining his commitment to the Glen Burnie Volunteer Fire Company and to the community.
