WYLIE LEE DONALDSON

Wylie Lee Donaldson was one of the founders of the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company in 1931.  He remained an active member until his death 35-years later.  He held a number of officer positions and served as treasurer for many years.  He never lost interest or concern for the fire company and always had his ears turned for the sounding of the fire alarm.

Wylie was born on 29 July 1885 and died on 28 December 1966.  He is the grandfather of Past President, Wylie L. Donaldson, Jr.  Wylie was a long time civic leader and was also invivolved in the Odenton Improvement Association and the Odenton Health Association.  He was a big supporter of the Odenton baseball team.  He was a conductor of the Washington-Baltimore and Annapolis Railroad until 1932.  He served as the Odenton Postmaster from 1932-1955.  He started the Odenton Insurance Agency selling Harleysville Auto Insurance.  For a short time, Wylie and his brother Roger ran a small grocery store in Gambrills near where Jerman's store was located.

Wylie was active in the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firemen's Association and was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 1997.
