 ELMER E. DUNN, SR.
Past President
1971-1972

Elmer Dunn was a life member of the Powhatan Beach Volunteer Fire Company. In the late 1960’s, he served as Chief. He also held the offices of Treasurer, Board of Directors, and President. In August 1990, Powhatan Beach and Green Haven Volunteer Fire Departments were merged to become the Armiger Volunteer Fire Department.

Elmer was active in the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firemen’s Association.  He served as Treasurer from 1965-1968 and as President from 1971-1972.  He again served as Treasurer from 1984-1987. Elmer served as chair and committee member of the Auditing Committee for a number of years.  He was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 1999.

Elmer received an Anne Arundel County Exemplary Performance Award.

Elmer was also active in the Maryland State Firemen’s Association. He served as President from 1976-1977. While serving as President of the Maryland State Firemen’s Association, Elmer responded to 432 ambulance calls at his home company. This is a monumental task for those who know the demanding hours of the Association. He also served many years as chair of the Audit Committee and was named Chairman Emeritus of the committee. Elmer was instrumental in getting the state of Maryland to produce the firefighter’s license plates - the first personalized plates issued by the state. He could always be counted on to sell over $500 worth of $10,000 raffle tickets to his clients at his office. He was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 1988.

Elmer served in the Army during the Korean War. He received four Bronze Stars.

Elmer was self employed as a Certified Public Accountant. He was also a member of the Mountain Road Kiwanis Club and the Pasadena American Legion. He served as treasurer for the Solley United Methodist Church and was a charter member of the Pasadena Business Association.

Elmer passed away on 7 September 2005 at the age of 76.
