Kathy Gies joined the Herald Harbor Volunteer Fire Department in 1984 and is a Life Member.  She has served as an active riding member performing various operational and administrative duties.  She has served as Station Lieutenant, EMS Coordinator, Fire Prevention and Life Safety Chairperson, and member of the Board of Directors.  Kathy has also been a member of the Maryland City Volunteer Fire Department and the Woodland Beach Volunteer Fire Company where she also served in various roles.

At the company level, Kathy has been recognized as Top Responder numerous years.  She has been instrumental in the company receiving annual Life Safety Grants from the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office which benefitted the company’s year round Fire Prevention and Life Safety Education Program.  She has also organized numerous company award banquets and company anniversary celebrations.  She chaired the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association (AACVFA) Convention Committee when Herald Harbor hosted a very successful and well attended convention in 2011.

Kathy’s most distinguishing contributions have been serving as the Secretary to the AACVFA.  In this role, she handles correspondence and records meeting minutes for the Association, Board of Directors, and the Training and Chief’s Committee.  However, her contributions go far beyond simply taking meeting minutes.  She provides invaluable input which drives the policies and operations of the Association.

At the Maryland State Firemen’s Association (MSFA) level, Kathy has continually been a delegate representing both her home company and the AACVFA.  She has played a role in supporting the candidacy and campaigns for Anne Arundel County members who have sought office in the MSFA.

Kathy’s 30-years of dedicated service to the fire service and citizens of Anne Arundel County, makes her most deserving of induction in the Hall of Fame.
