WILLIAM A. HAWKINS

 William “Bill” Hawkins joined the Jessup Volunteer Fire Department in 1959 and is a life member.  He served as Secretary and Treasurer prior to becoming President for over 20-years.  He served on the Board of Director’s for countless years.  Bill was an active member with fundraising, most notably the fund drives.  He was one of the members who outlined Jessup’s first due area and set up the routes for the members to cover asking for donations.  He was instrumental in doing whatever job needed done to keep the fire department running smoothly.

Bill is active in the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighter’s Association when he is not in Florida (his part-time home).  Bill and his wife Anne were on the committee for the restoration of the 17 State Circle Maryland State Firemen’s Association Legislative office in Annapolis.  He served on the Hall of Fame committee and many other committees.  He was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 1999.

Bill is also active in the Maryland State Firemen’s Association.  He served as Assistant Secretary for 16-years.  He is a regular at the annual conventions.  He received the Gladhill Trophy award in 1983.  He was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 1987.

Bill retired after 30 years as a Maintenance Engineer for the Maryland State Highway Administration. Bill was a member of many other organizations; Masons of Laurel, the Shriners of Ft. Myers, Fl., and the American Legion of Laurel, Md. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Laurel.

Bill passed away on February 1, 2013
