D. Edgar Hurlock, Jr. was a life member of the Glen Burnie Volunteer Fire Department. He served as President four separate terms.
Edgar was active in the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firemen’s Association and served as President from 1956-1957. He served as Trustee in 1959 and 1960. He was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 1997.
In 1996, his son, Phil, established the D. Edgar Hurlock, Jr. Fire Prevention Award in recognition for his years of commitment to the fire service of Anne Arundel County. This award is given out at each convention.
Edgar was inducted in the Maryland State Firemen's Association Hall of Fame in 1983. He ran for the position of Trustee in June 1970.
Edgar was also involved in the Church Hill Volunteer Fire Company in Queen Anne’s County. He served as Chief in 1939. He also served as President in 1968, 1969, 1973, 1974, 1975, and 1976.
Edgar served as President of the Kent and Queen Anne’s Firemen’s Association from September 1972 - June 1973. He was inducted in the Hall of Fame in April 1992.
Edgar was also a member of the Glen Burnie Improvement Association.
Edgar passed away on 15 May 1977 at the age of 68.
