Kenneth Hyde, Sr.
I nominate Chief Kenneth Hyde, Sr. to the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association Hall of Fame.
Chief Hyde, who has been Chief of the Riviera Beach Volunteer Fire Company for nine years, is a third generation firefighter. The Chief’s son is also a firefighter in the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.
Under the Chief’s administration the Riviera Beach Volunteer Fire Company has grown in strength. The Chief enjoys the total respect of his officers and of his members. He leads by example. He does not ask any of his members to do any job that he himself would not do. He is credited with numerous rescues during his firefighting career. In addition to his leadership quality, his firefighting skills, and his administrative skills he is also known as an individual who knows how to deal with the various governmental agencies that provide funds for firefighting equipment. With unusual foresight the Chief was able to negotiate the receipt of several specialized boats prior to Hurricane Isabel.
During his tenure the Chief has thoroughly modernized all of the apparatus and equipment that includes many different firefighting applications all in one truck, including ladder truck, rescue truck, water tanker, which also carries firefighting equipment.
Chief Hyde has served as Past Vice-President of the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association and currently serves on the Chief’s Committee. He also is on the Maryland State Firemen’s Association Hazardous Materials Committee where he was Chairman of this committee in years past.
Respectfully,
Frederick G. Hyde, Sr.
