Dear Hall of Fame Committee Members,
The Eastport Volunteer Fire Department wishes to submit the name of Stuart Leitch for consideration of the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association Hall of Fame Award. Stuart became a member of the Eastport Volunteer Fire Department in approximately 1939. He joined when he was fifteen years old. He is a Retired Life Member as well as our oldest living member. During World War II, He was TECH 3 in the Army Medical Corps as a Combat Medic and served in South Pacific. He was wounded twice and received two Purple Hearts
Stuart held most every office in the company, including ambulance driver in the 1960’s. He drove it locally, Baltimore and Washington, as well as New York. Not only did he drive the ambulance, but also all the other apparatus including the brush truck and helped to fight the fires. He served as the Assistant Chief for many years. He was also in charge of the kitchen and catered many bowling banquets, wedding receptions, and other functions including county association meetings. He also served on many committees for the fire company.
Stuart has also been active in the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association. He still attends most of the county association meetings.
