STEPHEN M. MACEIKO
Chief
Stephen (Steve) M. Maceiko joined the Jessup Volunteer Fire Department on 14 March 1961 and has served with distinction for over 51-years.
As a member of Jessup, Steve has served as the Training Officer, Captain, and Chief. He presently holds the position of Chief. During his tenure, he has received numerous Chiefs awards from the Anne Arundel County Fire Department. Additionally, Steve is the only volunteer serving on the Maryland State Urban Search and Rescue Task Force 2/Anne Arundel County serving in the role since 2004.
In addition to his service to Jessup, Steve served as a career firefighter for the Anne Arundel County Fire Department for over 28-years, retiring on 31 July 1996 at the rank of Captain which he received in 1984. As a career member of the department, he attended the first class of career firefighters in Anne Arundel County in 1968. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 1973. Steve served 4-years as a Lieutenant/Instructor at the Training Academy where he served both the volunteer and career educational and training needs. He served as Project Manager for Station 33’s reconstruction from 1985 until 1986.
Steve returned to the Training Academy in 1988 and served in that role until 1992. During his tenure, he was responsible for staring the Collapse Team, a benefit to all members of the fire service. Steve served as an Acting Battalion Chief for his last year of service to the county where he routinely provided guidance and development opportunities to volunteer officers under his command.
Steve has been a member and delegate to the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighter’s Association for many years and has used his background in fire service training for the betterment of all firefighters in the county. Steve served on the Convention Committee for 2012. He was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 2012.
Steve also has served as a member and delegate to the Maryland State Firemen’s Association for over 10-years.
The most notable accomplishment that can be called to mind when contemplating the fire service tenure of Steve is that he has used his skills, knowledge, and experiences to train the members of the volunteer fire service so that they might serve their communities with pride, commitment, and an understanding that safety is the most important thing to practice.
