Arnold William “Pop” Martin
West Annapolis Fire and Improvement Company, Inc. takes great honor in posthumously nominating Arnold William “Pop” Martin for the county’s Hall of Fame Award. Pop, as he was affectionately known, became a member of the company in September 1940. He was awarded the company’s highest honor of Life Member.
Pop was an Anne Arundel County Fire Commissioner for the Second District. This was prior to 1952 when the station was annexed into the city.
He opened Martin’s Body Works in Annapolis after the war until his retirement. During his years in business, he gave many a young man a second chance to get ahead. This type of community involvement is what earned him the name Pop.
Positions that he held in the company were Chairman of the Trustees, Vice President, and he chaired many fundraising events.
Pop was active in the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firemen's Association. He served as Secretary in 1945. He was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 1999.
