Chief Dennis J. McDonald and President Paul J. Demasky, Jr.

Dennis J. McDonald is a Life Member of the Herald Harbor VFD having joined in 1991.  He is an EMT-B, Fire Officer III, and has 19 different National and State Board Fire Service Professional Qualifications.  Dennis has served as an active riding member performing various operational and administrative duties.  He has served as Chief, Station Commander, Captain, Lieutenant, and on the Board of Directors (multiple terms).  He also served as a member of the Maryland City VFD and as Assistant Chief at Woodland Beach VFD.

At the company level, Dennis has been recognized as a Top Responder, Top Training, and Top Overall numerous years.  He was instrumental in the Herald Harbor VFD receiving Senator Amoss Fund monies for the brush truck and ambulance.  Dennis wrote and received a Chief’s Unit Award and Unit Citation Award to recognize him and his member’s accomplishments in 1996.  He has received, on three different occasions, Herald Harbor’s most prestigious award, the Edward S. Hall, Jr. Memorial Fire/EMS/Community Service Award.

At the county level, Dennis has continually been a delegate to the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association (AACVFA) meetings and serves, at the request of President Paul Demasky, as a representative for the Fire Advisory Board to the AACVFA Board of Directors.  He served on the Strategic Planning Committee at the request of Chief Mikules.  Dennis is an active member of the Chief’s Committee and has also served on the Safety Committee (10-years), Injury Review Committee (10-years), Accident (Collision Review Board (20-years), and the LEPC (10-years).  He has received Letters of Appreciation from Division Chief Allen Williams for Appreciation for Collision Review Board in 2001, from Chief Roger Simonds for Appreciation for Serving on Various Committees and Boards, and from Division Chief Williams a Letter of Gratitude for his time and service for various committees.  He was elected to the Fire Advisory Board and is serving in his second term.  He submitted two of his members for the Firefighter of the Year Awards from the American Legion.  Dennis was awarded Volunteer of the Quarter in 1998.

At the state level, Dennis is a member of the Maryland Fire Chiefs and serves as a delegate to the Maryland State Firemen’s Association for multiple terms.  He is a supporter and attendee of Hot/Fools Programs in Ocean City.  He was instrumental in having two of his members receive the Rookie of the Year award in Ocean City from the MSFA.
