John A. Meech
Past President 1958-1959

  Mr. Meech joined the Avalon Shores Volunteer Fire Department in 1951. John’s main interest was in the administrative activities of the Fire Department. He held the offices of Secretary, Treasurer, and President.

  Mr. Meech was the first member of the Avalon Shores Volunteer Fire Department to hold the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firemen’s Association offices and was President in 1958-1959.

  His administrative talents were also utilized on the state level where he served as the Chairman of the Maryland State Firemen’s Association Executive Committee for two terms from 1960-1962.

  His untimely death shortened his fire service career and denied the Maryland State Firemen’s Association of an excellent candidate for President.

The Maryland State Firemen’s Association honored Mr. Meech for his fire service contributions by placing him in the Maryland State Firemen’s Association Hall of Fame during its initial induction held on June 17, 1979.

Mr. Meech was an inspiration for many members of the fire service including the other members from Avalon Shores to hold County Association office, Past President Dennis Skinner.
