Albert (Al) W. Miller
Albert (Al) Miller joined the Maryland City Volunteer Fire Department in the early 1970’s. He took EMT training and served as an EMS Lieutenant and EMS Captain for several years. He was the EMT who always seemed to get ambulance calls at dinner time. Al would always respond. He served on the Board of Director’s for approximately 21-years. He served as President from 1986-1987 and 1987-1988. He was active in the fire department events and fundraisers. He was one you could always count on. Al was a life member.
Al received the President’s Award and the Firefighter of the Year awards in 1990. On 16 March 1995, the American Legion Post in Laurel recognized Al post-humus as Firefighter of the Year.
Al was one of Maryland City’s delegates to the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighter’s Association. He served as Sergeant-at-Arms from 1974-1978. It is unknown what committees he was on, but he was very involved in activities of the County Association. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1997.
Al also attended the Maryland State Firemen’s Conventions for many, many years as one of Maryland City’s delegates.
Al was an honorary member of the Maryland City Auxiliary. He would assist with the various fundraisers. One thing Al was remembered for was going with another member to Jessup Volunteer Fire Company to borrow their tables for the flea markets.
Al passed away on 3 May 1994.
