Kathryn A. Morgan

The Cape St. Claire Volunteer Fire Company, Inc., takes great pride in submitting this letter of nomination/recommendation for this prestigious award. We feel that our nominee not only meets but also exceeds the minimum criteria for this award.

Our nominee has been an active member of the Cape St. Claire Volunteer Fire Company, Inc., (Station 19) for over fifteen years. The nominee first concentrated on the Emergency Medical Service by completing First Responder and EMT in 1984-1985, eventually becoming the person behind the CPR program at Station 19 for both health care providers and the community.

As our nominee progressed in the fire service EMT was followed by Firefighter I and II, FADO, and Fire Officer I among other achievements. Company administrative offices held have included Secretary and Company Funds Treasurer. Involvement at the county and state level soon followed with membership on several committees with the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association and the Maryland State Firemen’s Association.

In 1999 our nominee was appointed as County-Recognized Suppression Lieutenant, the first female volunteer to achieve this rank in the Anne Arundel County Fire Department. She is a volunteer staff member in the Emergency Operations Center performing many of the various functions required during natural or man-made disasters. In 1999 she received an Executive Citation for her work in the EOC during hurricane Floyd. She has been very active in fire prevention, receiving the 1998 GEICO Service Award (Fire Prevention and Safety).

In August 2000 she and a coworker were presented the Citizenship Award (the highest non-monetary award) by the Executive Director of the National Security Agency for their personal involvement with the attempted rescue of another NSA employee who was the victim of a serious motorcycle accident.

All of the aforementioned have been accomplished concurrently with her involvement with Job’s Daughters. As a member of the Bethel 45 (Upper Marlboro) she served as the Guardian and followed that by achieving Marshall, Guide, Vice Grand Guardian, and in 1999-2000 served as the Grand Bethel Guardian of the International Order of Job’s Daughters of the State of Maryland. She continues to work with Rainbows and is associated with the Order of Easter Star in Glen Burnie.

We, the members of the Cape St. Claire Volunteer Fire Company, Inc., sincerely feel that our nominee, Lieutenant Kathryn A. Morgan is a prime example of the adage, “If you really want something done, give the job to someone who has no time to do it”. We would appreciate your consideration of “Kathy” for this award.
Sincerely,
G. William Hill
President
