Roy L. “Stump” Morgan

Independent Fire Company No. 2, Annapolis, MD
Roy served as President of the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firemen’s Association from 1933 – 1936. He also served as a Trustee in 1936.
On February 7th, 1904, six members from the Independent Fire Company, with six members from each of the other two fire companies of Annapolis, were sent to the Baltimore fire, under a proffer of assistance from Mayor Jones of Annapolis to Mayor McLane of Baltimore. The Independent fire engine and the Rescue’s reel were taken to Baltimore. Assistant marshal Philip E. Porter was in charge of the Annapolis detail. The members of the Independent Fire Company were Louis H. Martin, Roy L. Morgan, McClelland Brewer, Fenner Clark, George F. Quaid, William Farrell, engineer, and Samuel Wood, fireman, were in charge of the engine. The company arrived in Baltimore at 10P.M., February 7th, and at 10A.M. the next day were ordered home.
Tribute was paid to the memory of the late Roy L. Morgan last night when the Independent Firemen and the Elks met in a pinochle match at the fire company’s quarters. The firemen won the match 25 to 20. “Brother Morgan was for many years one of the leading influences that guided the destinies of this outstanding fire company,” Mr. Miller said. “He was a devoted volunteer servant ever ready in the line of duty and ever present to assist in the upbuilding and promotion of this company’s civic and social standing in this community.” “His ever pleasing, gentle and lovable personality was one of the important and outstanding yard sticks by which a great majority of his fellow members of the Independent Fire Company measured their desire for successful accomplishments.” “As an Elk our fraternity will emblazon his name upon our memorial tablet.
Roy L. Morgan also served the Junior Order of the United American Mechanics. He served as President of the Independent Fire Company No. 2. He also was the Chairman of the Trustees to the Maryland State Firemen’s Association.
Roy was inducted in the Maryland State Firemen's Association Hall of Fame in 1979.
