WILLIAM “EARL” SHIPLEY

William “Earl” Shipley was a life member of the Jessup Volunteer Fire Company. He served as Chief for many, many years. He was a very dedicated fireman. In 1963, Earl was instrumental in getting an ambulance assigned to Jessup since there was none in the area. He was a driver for the ambulance but he never rode in the back with the patient. He was active in fundraising, most notably the fund drives. He was one of the members who outlined Jessup’s first due area and set up the routes for the members to cover asking for donations.

Earl was active in the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firemen’s Association. He went to most of the meetings. He served as Second Vice President in 1990. He was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 1998.

Earl was active in the Maryland State Firemen’s Association and attended the annual convention whenever possible.
