Harry C. "Chip" Wagner

The Officers and Members of the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company are proud to submit the name of one of our members for the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association Hall of Fame Award. We are certain that the testimony that follows give due consideration for the award.

Harry C. "Chip" Wagner joined the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company on April 14, 1981. Chip moved to the Odenton area after serving for a number of years with the Lutherville Volunteer Fire Company whose area where he previously lived. Chip also served as a career firefighter with the Baltimore City Fire Department but never allowed union pressures to impede his participation as a volunteer firefighter.

Upon joining the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company, Chip became immediately active as an emergency responder, eventually becoming the Chief of our company from 1990-1991. Chip has always had the respect of the members of our company and during his tenure as Chief, the company rallied in support of training activities and operational readiness that he demanded. Chip has also served in several capacities with our company's board of Directors and faithfully performed the duties in each position served.

Over his tenure of twenty-nine (29) years with the company, Chip has remained a dedicated asset to our company. Within the last several years, he retired from his career service with the Baltimore City Fire Department and reluctanly gave up his participation as an emergency responder because of medical limitations. He continues to support the fire company with a variety of activities including fundraising events, building maintenance projects, and other administrative projects. Chip is probably best known for his initiative to sell funnel cakes at our annual carnival. He persuaded the carnival committee one year to let him try it and the success of that new venture has led to a tradition that continues today. Each year, Chip continues a watchful eye over this concession and the company continues to reap the successes of his efforts.

While never held office within the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association or the Maryland State Firemen's Association, but has been a regular attendee at the meetings of the AACVFA and the conventions of the MSFA as a representative of the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company. He offers position statements where necessary during the meeting discussions and reports back regularly to our company so that we are aware of both association's activities.

As the above testimony clearly describes, Harry C. "Chip" Wagner has dutifully served the interest of the Odenton Volunteer  Fire Company and the fire service across Anne Arundel County and the state of Maryland for over twenty-nine years. Chip serves as a role model and mentor for each person that he meets. In consideration of his achievements as a volunteer firefighter, it is with great pride and honor that the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company submits the name of Harry C. "Chip" Wagner, for consideration for the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association Hall of Fame Award.

Respectfully submitted,
Troy A. Odendhal
President
