Laura A. Woods

  The Arundel Volunteer Fire Department would like to nominate Laura A. Woods to the Hall of Fame of the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association. Laura joined the Arundel Volunteer Fire Department in 1978, and was among the first women members of our Organization. She became a Maryland EMT-A, and was an Ambulance Driver for the next six years. She has, over the past 27 years, served in a number of offices and Committee positions, most recently as our Chaplain since 1995.

  Additionally, she is active in other Fire Service organizations, notably the Maryland State Firemen’s Association where she has served on the Special Activities Committee for the past twenty years, eleven of which she was the Chairperson of the committee. Laura is also a member of the Maryland Fire Chiefs Association, and has served on the Membership Committee there.

  She also holds active membership in The Glenn Dale Volunteer Fire Association in Prince George's County, where she is serving her first term as President. She is an active participant in the Prince George's County Volunteer Fire/Rescue Association, currently serving her second term on the Board of Directors.

  Laura is certainly a part of a Fire Service Family. Her late father, Chester Wickstrom, and her husband, H.E. “Ed” Woods, are both Past Presidents of the A.A.C.V.F.A and several children and grandchildren are active in several departments today.

2012 UPDATE:

Laura is active in the Maryland State Firemen’s Association.  She is Chairman of the Sergeant of Arms Committee, serves on the Administration Subcommittee for the Convention Steering committee, and is the Anne Arundel County Coordinator for the Transportation committee.  She previously served on the Special Activities committee.  Laura was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 2006.
