Christine Ford
Lake Shore Volunteer Fire Company

On June 16th, 2017, Christine Ford of the Lake Shore Volunteer Fire Company was enroute to the Maryland State Firemen’s Association Convention and Conference and happened upon an automobile accident in Caroline County. This accident was a head-on collision between a minivan and a full-sized pickup truck with entrapment and fire.

Christine stopped to offer aid. Christine noticed the pickup truck was on fire and saw the driver of the truck unconscious and slumped over. Christine made access to the passenger’s side of the truck where she was able to pull the driver out of the burning vehicle to safety.

This incident was documented by Greensboro Assistant Chief Shawn Sharkey of which he wrote “if Christine had not stopped and helped that night, the outcome of this incident may have been different. I feel that Christine’s quick thinking to putt the driver from the truck saved his life. I have been contacted by EMS providers on PM-14 advising me of how much of a help she was with patient care.”

Christine began her public safety journey as a Junior member of the Lake Shore Volunteer Fire Company at the age of 12. Christine’s dream was to be involved in the medical field. She fell in love with the fire department upon turning 16, she enrolled in Firefighter I and Haz-Mat Classes, takin the classes alongside her father. Also in 2016, Christine enrolled in EMT classes through the Anne Arundel County Community College, taking her National test and becoming a Maryland EMT in May of 2017.

Although Christine was deeply involved in studying for her National test (with the aid of her fellow members at the station), she still rode the ambulance to keep up on her skills. Christine was always willing to assist around the station and helped with training whenever she was available.

Because of the efforts listed above, I suggest Christine Ford be considered for the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association Firefighter/EMT/Admin Member of the Quarter Award. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
