THE D. EDGAR HURLOCK, JR. FIRE PREVENTION AWARD

Title:  The D. Edgar Hurlock, Jr. Fire Prevention Award

Purpose:  To give recognition to the fire companies or individuals for outstanding Fire Prevention Activities/Programs.

Background:  In 1996, Mr. Philip Hurlock, Past President of the Maryland State Firemen’s Association (1993-1994) established this award in memory of his father, Mr. D. Edgar Hurlock, Jr., who was President of the Glen Burnie Volunteer Fire Department and President of the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association (1956-1957).  He was inducted into the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association Hall of Fame in 1997.  This award is given by his son as recognition for his years of commitment to the fire service of Anne Arundel County.

Administration:
            
1. Judges will be selected the Fire Prevention Committee and must be from outside Anne Arundel
               County.
            2.The individual/company must be a member in good standing of the Anne Arundel County
               Volunteer Firefighters Association.
            3. It is not necessary to submit a book.
            4. Any book entered, including scrapbooks, photo albums, or loose leaf binders, will be returned to
                the company.  The thickness is not limited.
            5. Cover letter on department/company letterhead is required.
            6. Slide presentation:  slide/tape presentation and video presentations are permissible.
            7. Entries MUST be in the hand of the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association
                Fire Prevention Committee by 1 August of each year.
            8. All materials covered in entries should cover the timeframe from 1 August of the prior year to
                30 July of the current year.
            9. Judging shall be completed and results forwarded to the sponsor by 15 August of each year.
            10.This award will be given out annually at the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters
                 Association Convention by the sponsor.
