Fire, Rescue, EMS Individual of the Year Award

Section I. Purpose
    This award is considered to be the highest award given by the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association that can be conferred on an individual other than that of heroism. it will be awarded on a highly selective basis to a volunteer who, in the opinion of the judges, has made an outstanding contribution to the future welfare of volunteerism within his/her company, to Anne Arundel County, and the State of Maryland.

Section II. Eligibility
    All individuals who are members in good standing  of a Volunteer Fire, Rescue, or EMS company within Anne Arundel County.

Section III. Criteria
    1. The nominee accomplished, assigned or assumed duties in such a manner as have clearly exceptional among all who have performed like or similar duties in a superior manner.

    2. The nominee developed and/or improved methods and procedures, or produced an innovation which accomplished extraordinary results for the volunteer fire, rescue, and emergency service of his/her company, the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association, or the Maryland State Firemen's Association.

    3. The nominee may have exhibited great courage and voluntary risk of personal safety or personal possessions in the face of danger, over and beyond the call of duty, in performing an act or acts which resulted in direct benefit to his/her company, the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association, or the Maryland State Firemen's Association.

    4. The nominee may have rendered outstanding service, either operationally or administratively, related to his/her activities for their company, the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association, or the Maryland State Firemen's Association relating to activities which improved the image of volunteerism, gained favorable benefits, meritorious recognition, or contributed to/or develop a valuable program.

Section IV. Time Period
    Although it is realized that to be fully effective, an award should be timely, this award shall be based on a fiscal year of July 1st through June 30th of each year.

Section V. Preparation of Entries
    Factual information prepared as separate correspondence in the form of a proposal for each nominee. It shall list the candidate's accomplishments in accordance with the above criteria (Section III), and shall be on the stationary of the nominee's volunteer fire, rescue, or ems company.

Section VI. Submission of Nominees
    The name or names of prospective recipients shall be submitted to the judges on or before August 1st of each year. If no nominees are submitted to the judges, the judges may select a qualified candidate.

Section VII. Judges
    The judges shall be the Trustees of the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association. A simple majority of the judges shall be necessary for a decision. The judges shall base their selection with major emphasis being given to the individual's activities on behalf of his/her company, the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association or the Maryland State Firemen's Association.

Section VIII. Presentation of the Award
    The award shall be presented to the recipient annually, starting in 1991, at the annual convention of the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association, and shall be inscribed with his/her name.
