Patricia A. Barger

  The Maryland City Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary is proud to nominate Patricia A. Barger for the Hall of Fame. Pat has been a member of our auxiliary for twenty-three years and is a life member. Pat has served as Vice-President and Treasurer of our auxiliary many times over the years. She is currently serving as Vice-President. She has also served on various committees over the years, but most notably she has been Ways and Means Chairperson of the auxiliary for many years. No fundraising project is too small or too large. Without a hall, our auxiliary has limited ways to make money. As chairperson, Pat coordinates or helps to coordinate, the auxiliary’s annual events which consist of two flea markets, a craft sale, two Sports Card Shows, a bus trip, and two Italian Sub sandwich sales. The Italian Sub sale requires preparation a day ahead of time as well as the day of the sale. Pat also coordinates the selling of miscellaneous articles that our auxiliary sells through the year. She coordinated the auxiliary cookbook we put together and sold several years ago. She willingly volunteers her name and telephone number to be used as a contact point for fundraising events. She works all events our auxiliary has from beginning to end. She more than willingly bakes goods for our fundraisers or when the local jeweler asks us for donations of baked goods for the less fortunate.

  Pat generously offers her home for any regular or special meetings, the annual auxiliary picnic, and Christmas party. She helps to coordinate same.

  When it is Maryland City’s turn to host the county auxiliary or county association meetings, Pat takes charge and coordinates the efforts to purchase, prepare, and serve the meal and anything else that needs done to make the meeting go off without a hitch. In an effort to save money for the annual fire department/auxiliary banquet, Pat has made much of the food and offered her home for preparation of same over the last two years. Many years ago, the auxiliary also fixed the food for the banquet and Pat was also coordinating the efforts and preparing same then.

  The Auxiliary Member of the Year Award was created in 1985. The auxiliary members vote for, who they feel has done the most in the auxiliary during the year and deserve special recognition. Pat was selected three times for this award. She received the Auxiliary President’s Award for the 1992-1993 term for working very hard for our fundraising efforts, being very eager to help and offer suggestions in whatever the cause may be, and most of all, for saving the President’s sanity more times than she can ever guess. She also received a Letter of Appreciation for the 1991-1992 year for her untiring efforts in the Ways and Means program.

  Many years ago, Pat was certified as an Emergency Medical Technician and actively rode the ambulance. Each year, Pat goes on the annual fund drive our fire department has soliciting donations through the community. Even though this is a fire department fundraiser, Pat is there helping out.

  Pat is currently serving as Guard for the Ladies Auxiliary to the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association. We know she will give this position her all as she does everything else.

  Pat has also served on many committees for the Ladies Auxiliary to the Maryland State Firemen’s Association. She served as Chairman of the Pins and Badges committee for three consecutive years. She also served many years on the Ways and Means Committee and is currently serving on the Transportation Committee, her second year in a row.

  Pat is part of the glue that holds our auxiliary together. She continually donates her time and talents to the auxiliary and is truly deserving of induction into the Hall of Fame.
