SUBJ: Nomination for Original Induction into the Ladies Auxiliary Hall of Fame
NOMINEE: Sharon Funk
AUXILIARY: Ladies Auxiliary Lake Shore Volunteer Fire Company, Inc.
                         Ladies Auxiliary Powhatan Beach Volunteer Fire Company, Inc.
                         Ladies Auxiliary Eastport Volunteer Fire Company, Inc.

Prior to 1974 Sharon helped the fire department in any way she possibly could – mainly helping in door-to-door fund drive – she was usually the top collector among the younger set.

1974 – Joined the Second Auxiliary of Lake Shore Volunteer Fire Company, Inc., took active parts in all fund raisers – weekly bingo – dinners – bus trips – breakfast – talent shows – fashion shows – gong shows – etc. She is a charter member of the Powhatan Public Fire Education Team, Inc. and took a course in teaching Fire Prevention given through the National Fire Academy at Emmitsburg, MD. She taught Fire Prevention all year around every year. In 1983 Sharon and her sister-in-law won the Silver Spring Trophy at the Maryland State Firemen’s Association convention. The first and only time it has been won by anyone in Anne Arundel County.

1984 – Joined and helped reactivate the Powhatan Beach Volunteer Fire Company, Inc. Ladies Auxiliary. Continued teaching Fire Prevention and helping the Auxiliary in fund raisers – weekly bingo – breakfast – auctions – etc. In 1987 Sharon and the Team came in second place in the Silver Spring Trophy contest. She also started up the chairs in the County Auxiliary.

1988 – Joined the Ladies Auxiliary of the Eastport Volunteer Fire Company, Inc. where she continues helping on dinners – etc. Presently Sharon is Vice- President of the Auxiliary. Presently she is President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association. She is and has been the last three years a member of the Fire Prevention Committee for the Ladies Auxiliary to the Maryland State Firemen’s Association.

1992 – Sharon put together and quilted a queen size quilt for the state auxiliary which was raffled off at Ocean City.

1993 – She made a twin size quilt for the raffle.

Sharon continues to teach fire prevention all year and just finished a new and interesting program at our local elementary school. She is really a dedicated person as far as Fire Prevention and Ladies Auxiliary’s are concerned.
