She was very active in the Ladies Auxiliary to the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firemen’s Association, having served as Secretary for 2 years, Vice-President, and President 1955-1956. She also held the position of Ways and Means Chairman and that of Parliamentarian.
Gertie has served the Ladies Auxiliary to the Maryland State Firemen’s Association in an outstanding manner. State offices held include: Color Bearer, Guard, Corresponding Secretary, Treasurer, Vice-President, and then as President in 1963-1964. It was during her tenure as President that a special tribute dinner was held in honor of Bessie S. Marshall (beloved “Aunt Bess”) who gave so much time and service to all our firemen for many years. She has served on the following state committees, giving her full support to each: Executive, Credentials, Constitution and By-Laws, Publicity, Pins and Badges, County Organizers, Ways and Means, and many many times on the Bessie Marshall Hospital/Benefit Fund.
Gertie also served the Ladies Auxiliary to the Maryland Fire Chiefs Association many years on the Sunshine Committee.
This lady continues to serve her community and others in a most dedicated and loyal manner. She was given a special award by Lake Shore Fire Company when it honored her with Life membership at its 50th Anniversary.
