Suppers, Luncheons; Bake Sales, Dances, New Year Eve Parties, Cash Bingo, Prize Bingo for prizes (collected prizes for bingo), Carnivals, Annual Bowling Banquets for National Plastic Co., Blue and Gold Banquets for Scouts, Boy and Girl Scout Banquets, Annual Marine Banquet (when NSA first came to Ft. Meade), Oyster. Roast, served refreshments at Donkey Ball Games the men sponsored. Worked preparing food for County Ladies & Men and State Fire Chiefs Meetings also State Forestry. Train Shows, Gun Shows Wedding Receptions, Anniversary·& Birthday Parties, Candy Making & Sales, Flea Markets. and other· Catering Jobs the Aux. took on.
In the late 40’s and early 50’s she was head of our Blue Cross and paid for it thru the Ladies Auxiliary, (our members could take health insurance with Blue Cross and paid for it thru the Ladies Auxiliary premiums had to be collected and mailed in.)
In the 50’s she was chairperson for the Odenton Area for the Red Feather or Community Chest. Collecting donations and would go back to these business or individuals each year for many years. She received a number of letters of Appreciation and attended banquets given by the Community Chest.
Miss Hoerning and some of our other members helped at the Odenton Health Clinic (which at the time was in the basement of the Odenton Elementary School) with their dental program.
She worked with the Red Cross during World War II. They took care of food rations and medical supplies and went to the Blackout Shelters during the Air Raids (Civil Defense Program).
She worked at our Annual Spring Hat Shows and Sales (Robinson’s Department Store supplied the Hats, gloves etc.) Participating in the Hat Contest for Fire Prevention.
Prepared & delivered-drinks & food to. the fire locations during our brush fires we had each spring and any two alarm fires our boys responded to.
Took part in Memorial Day Services that the Ladies Aux. and Firemen ·had at Nichols Bethel Church in the 50's. Ladies dressed in Uniform (Marching Unit Uniform) & men in their full dress uniform, also participated in the Special Firemen & Ladies Fire Prevention Services at Nichols Bethel Church dressed in uniform.
Miss Hoering marched in the Ladies Marching Unit for Firemen Parades at Annual carnivals, in our County plus State wide. Paraded in the Maryland Day.I Am An American Day Parade. Starting Fire Prevention Week in Baltimore City and Maryland State Fair opening. Theresa and the Ladies also marched at the Md. State Firemen’s Convention at Ocean City a couple of years. Also attended the Maryland State Firemen’s Convention a number of years. Also marched in the A.A. County Convention Parade a number of years with the Odenton Ladies Marching· Unit.
Attended County and State Meetings. (Years ago State Spring and Fall Conference were held in hotels in Baltimore City.)
Miss Hoerning was active for 45 years in the Auxiliary. The last five years her health and age made it impossible for her to be active, passing away May 15, 1993 a the age of 95.
