Jane Huffman
Past President 1999-2000
Orchard Beach Auxiliary

Jane has served through the chairs in the Ladies Auxiliary to Anne Arundel County Volunteer Fire Fighter' Association, was elected President of that organization in 1999, and as a Past President is entitled to be elected to the Hall of Fame. However, there are other reasons for Jane Huffman to be inducted tonight.

Jane has been Fire Prevention Chairman for the Maryland State Firemen's Association Ladies Auxiliary for many years, bringing to the members the need to know how to protect themselves and their loved ones from fire dangers by teaching them how to prevent fires, especially in the home, and what to do in the event of a fire.

Jane has been instrumental in the Kids Safety Program which teaches children (and their parents) ways to protect themselves whether they are riding a bike or as a passenger in a car. She has also been active in the program to teach the proper installation of car seats for infants and young children and by using the Kids Safety House and having knowledgeable people present vital information to children concerning safety in the home and how to escape the home in case of a fire.

She is Co-chair for fund raising at the Orchard Beach Fire Department and for the Pre Teen Dance held once a month at the fire hall, with approximately one hundred pre-teens attending. Jane is also on the Archives Committee, and has received the J. Hurlock Award on two occasions for albums she has prepared. The most recent one was for this year.

Jane makes herself available to judge other Fire Prevention Contests, and has traveled throughout Maryland for Fire Prevention meetings. She recently set up and manned a display for the Special Olympics at BWI Airport.

This lady has been the driving force behind many auxiliaries to teach and practice fire prevention and is nominated for the Ladies Auxiliary Hall of Fame for all the effort she has expanded for the safety of all of us.

It is my pleasure to assist Marie Soutar this evening in honoring Jane Huffman into the Hall of Fame.

Jane started her membership in the fire department at Lake Shore VFC and has excelled in all areas. At Lake Shore VFC she has served as Auxiliary President, Company Secretary and Fire Prevention Chairperson.

Jane was instrumental in the success and creation of the Kid's Safety Day. Every year she has brought our company Open House to a very memorable experience for many of our local communities.

In the year 2000, Jane successfully put together and brought to Lake Shore the J. Hurlock Award for her efforts in fire prevention.

Thank you Jane for your continued caring & devotion to many, and congratulations.
