DORA "JO" LONG
Maryland City VFD and RS Auxiliary
The Maryland City VFD and RS Auxiliary is nominating Dora "Jo"Long for the Hall of Fame. Even though Jo has only been a members since 17 October 1995, she has been an extremely active member since the day she joined. She served as Vice Chaplain from June 1996 until 19 November 200l. On 20 November 2001, she assumed the duty of Secretary due to the passing of the long-time secretary, Mary Stewart. She has served on the Special Projects Committee from June 1996 until May 2000. She also served on the Telephone Committee from June 1996 until May 1999 and again from June 2001 until present. She was Co-Chairman of the Sunshine Committee June 1999 until November 2001. She has served on the Ways and Means Committee June 1999 until present. She received the Auxiliary Member of the Year for the 1996-97 year and the President', Award for the 1996-97 year and again for the 1999-00 year.
Jo's service to the auxiliary has been outstanding. She is one of these people that sees something needs done and goes ahead and does it without having to be asked. She readily agrees to purchase needed items for fundraisers, hosting of the county ladies and association meetings, and any other event that is held Jo works the fundraisers from start to finish. When it's time to host the county meetings, she's also there from start to finish as well. When the new fire house was being built in 1998, Jo was on the Hall Meeting Committee and spent an extremely large amount of time shopping for new items for the bunkrooms, station kitchen, and most importantly the hall kitchen. When the building was finally dedicated in October 1999, Jo was there from early to late making sure everything was taken care of and none of the 300 guests throughout the day left hungry. She takes telephone reservations for many of the fund raisers. She is always willing to donate to whatever raffle or special function is being held.
On the county level, Jo served as Guard from September 1999 until September 2000. She has served as Sunshine Chairperson Upper County from September 1999 until September 2001. Jo donated all the cards and postage. She even went the extra step to remember our shut in Past President's with not only Thinking of You cards throughout the year but also remembered them on many holidays. She is a regular at all the county meetings and conventions.
On the state level, Jo attends all the conferences and conventions each year. Even though she has not served on a committee, she has been asked to serve on the Pins and Badges committee for the 2002-2003 year.
As you can see by the above, Jo is more than willing to do whatever is needed for the good of our auxiliary. We hope the committee feels as we do that Jo is most deserving of induction into the Hall of Fame.
