Dear Hall of Fame Committee Members,
It is my pleasure to place the name of Betty Lou Pilkerton, Eastport Volunteer Fire Company, as a nominee for the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association Hall of Fame Award. Betty currently serves as the President of the Eastport Volunteer Fire Company, Betty is a life-long member of the Eastport Ladies Auxiliary and only in recent years has become an active component of the fire company. Despite the challenge of an aging and declining membership, Betty has continued to move the Eastport Volunteer Fire Company. When most of the membership was ready to toss in the towel and dissolve the volunteer corporation, Betty stepped forward and accepted the position and responsibilities of President of the company. Although not having any members who actively participate in an emergency response role, the company has directed their fundraising efforts under Betty’s leadership towards the purchase of equipment to improve emergency services delivery to the citizens of their community. In recent years, the volunteer fire company has purchased a new medic unit, donating the retired unit to a needy fire company in Canada. The company is in the process of purchasing a new fire engine. Each of these purchases is made with volunteer funds and save the taxpayers of the greater Eastport area from the cost burden of new apparatus purchases. In recognition of her past service to the Eastport Volunteer Fire Company, the citizens of the greater Eastport area, and to the fire service across Anne Arundel County, it is my pleasure to place Betty’s name into nomination for your consideration for the Hall of Fame Award.
Sincerely,
David W. Lewis
President, AACVFA
Betty was inducted to the AACVFA Hall of Fame September 2007
