Martha Sawyers
Deale Volunteer Fire Department & Rescue Squad Ladies Auxiliary

Martha Sawyers joined the auxiliary in the summer of 1976. She became a life member in 2001 with 25-years of service. She has been an active member of the auxiliary for 35-years. In addition, she is a supportive member of the fire company. Martha has been the auxiliary Vice President for well over 30 years. She was a member of our Marching Unit in the 1970’s and 80’s traveling all over the county and attending the MFSA Conventions and Parades. She has served as Co-Chairperson of our annual Christmas Bazaar for 35-years and always coordinated work nights to prepare and cook the many dozens of cookies for this event. Martha can be depended on to be at every function of the auxiliary and the fire company from start to finish. She can be counted on to donate baked goods whenever needed for Bake Sales, the Carnival, and Quarter Auctions. She is now the official “potato salad mixer” when needed at events, a duty passed on to her when Virginia Browning was no longer able to do it. Martha and her sister Mary have coordinated the Pizza Stand for our annual Carnival for 35-years.

 Martha follows in the footsteps of her mother, Molly, as she was a member of the auxiliary and she has served along side her sisters, Mary and Sadie, who joined the auxiliary a few months after her. Her daughter, Michelle, was a Junior Member of the Auxiliary and served as “Little Miss” and“Junior Miss” Fire Prevention Queen for Deale. Her sons, Michael and Marty, joined the fire company too. Marty is an active member and Michael is now career firefighter with A. A. County. Her Husband, Mickey, is a Life Member of the Department and very active today.

 Martha is truly a dedicated member of the auxiliary. She is hard working and dependable. Martha is a very special lady and we are blessed to have her as a member of our fire department “family”.
