SHIRLEY STEPHENS
PAST PRESIDENT
1976-1977
Shirley Stephens joined the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary in 1952 and is a 60-year member. She served as President of the Ladies Auxiliary in 1969 and 1970. She was a very active member. She worked suppers, luncheons, catering events (to include wedding receptions, anniversary parties, and birthday parties), train shows, gun shows, bake sales, dances, New Year’s Eve parties, bingos, carnival, annual bowling banquets for the old National Plastics Company, annual Marine Banquets, bull roasts, served refreshments at the donkey ball games, flea markets, and candy making and selling of same. She was also there when food needed to be prepared for the county meetings the ladies and the firemen would host as well as State Fire Chief’s meetings and functions for the State Forestry. Shirley also prepared and delivered food and drinks to the fire locations when needed. She was also in the Ladies Auxiliary marching unit for parades both county and statewide.
Shirley served as President of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firemen’s Association (it wasn’t Firefighter’s back then) from 1976-1977. Her mother Grace Knight, was also a Past President of the County Auxiliary from 1970-1971. Shirley was inducted in the Hall of Fame on 8 July 2003.
