ADDIE TONGUE
PAST PRESIDENT
1940-1942
Addie Tongue was an active member of the Annapolis Independent No. 2 Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. She was in charge of bingo for the company. Addie lived around the corner from the fire house on Market Street.
Addie was the driving force for the formulation of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firemen’s Association. On 11 April 1938, she held a meeting to interest other local auxiliaries in forming a county auxiliary. This became a reality on 14 May 1938 when the auxiliary was organized with three other auxiliaries (Brooklyn, Jessup, and Odenton) for a total of four auxiliaries. Addie served as the second President of the County Auxiliary serving from 1940-1942. She was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 2003.
The Annapolis Independent No. 2 Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary disbanded in the early 1950’s. At that time, Addie moved to California to live with her daughter.
