CIRCUMSTANCES OF DEATH: While on duty at the firehouse, Firefighter Phelps suffered a fatal heart attack. He was found in the radio room by his co-workers. He was also a life-long member of the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company.
BURIAL LOCATION: Friendship Cemetery – Mathison Drive, BWI Airport, MD (Anne Arundel County adc map 7-b-2) near right side fence line, 11 graves up from the entrance, 6 rows in from gravel driveway. Mathison Drive is located off MD170, follow to traffic circle. Open to public

Howard Phelps
Services were held Thursday for Howard “Hallie” Nelson Phelps, Sr. at the Nichols Bethel United Methodist Church in Odenton.
Mr. Phelps, a lifetime resident of Odenton, died suddenly Sunday at the Kimbrough Army Hospital of a heart attack. He was 54.
Born in Baltimore, he was employed with the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, where he held the position of Firefighter III. He was a member of the Nichols Bethel United Methodist Church and a Lifetime Member of the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company. A Glen Burnie High School graduate, he enjoyed farming and working on cars.
He is survived by his wife, the former Marilyn C. Stinchomb; and two sons, Howard N. Phelps, Jr. and Robert J. Phelps of Odenton.
Burial was at Friendship Cemetery. Services were conducted by Rev. James Manning.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company.

His name was Howard but everyone who knew him called him Hallie. He was a pump operator at Station 28 Odenton for 24 years and a volunteer for over 30 years. Hallie was not only a fireman and a beloved man at the station; he was also my dad. I was so proud when I got to go on my first call with my dad driving. I will never forget that ride nor him
