Past President Dorothy “Dottie” Dean Anderson, passed away on April 23, 2022, at the age of 80 after a long battle with cancer.

Dottie joined the Jessup VFD Ladies Auxiliary in May 1968 and was a member just shy of 54-years at the time of her death. She served as Secretary for countless years. When their ladies auxiliary President, Alvera Miller, passed away in 2011, Dottie became President to keep the auxiliary going. She was also active on the fire department side and served on the Board of Directors. The Jessup Ladies Auxiliary folded when the fire department went to career staffing a few years ago.

Dottie served as Past President of the AACVFA LA Auxiliary twice – 1980-1981 and 2008-2009. She was inducted in the Hall of Fame on July 11, 1995. She served on countless committees over the years. Most notably, she served many years as Parliamentarian. No one knew the constitution and by-laws like she did. Dottie was proud that two of her daughters, Theresa and Rose, both served as President of the AACVFA LA.

Dottie was also active in the Ladies Auxiliary to the Maryland State Firemen’s Association. She was active on many committees over the years. She was serving on the Ways and Means committee until her health worsened and she was no longer able to attend the conferences or the convention. She was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 2010. Four days prior to her death, Dottie was presented a 50-year service certificate by LAMSFA President Becky Wathen.

After moving to Howard County in Mt. Airy, Dottie joined the Lisbon Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary in April 2017. She was very active in fundraising there, most notably their breakfasts.

Dottie was very active in the Jessup Improvement Association for many, many years. You could always count on her to help in whatever capacity was needed.

Dottie retired from the National Security Agency before moving into the medical field where she took care of the elderly. She was full of life. She loved spending time at her cabin in West Virginia, traveling, camping, baking beautiful cakes, and spending time with her family.

Dottie was pre-deceased in death by her first husband Daniel W. (Danny) Dean, Jr. her daughter Maria Adams, her grandson Billy Vacek, and her parents Joseph and Ida Wheeler. She is survived by her second husband, Gary Anderson, children Theresa Winkelmeyer and her husband, Ralph; Rose Harrell and her husband, Rodney; Danny Dean and his wife Becky; and Kevin Dean and his wife Terri. She is also survived by three sisters, one brother, ten grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
