Saturday night, a fire engine from our Station 26 (South Glen Burnie), was on scene of a motor vehicle collision when it was struck in the side by a passenger car. Our firefighters were not injured. The driver of the passenger car was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. We would like to remind everyone to slow down and "move over" when you see our apparatus operating on the roadway. #firefighter #slowdown #paramedics #besafe

Maryland’s Move Over Law requires drivers to move over or slow down when passing authorized emergency or service vehicles that are stopped on the highway or other roadways12345. If moving to another lane away from the stopped vehicle is not possible, drivers must slow to a reasonable and prudent speed that is safe for existing weather, road, and vehicular or pedestrian traffic conditions3. Violating the law is a misdemeanor carrying a $110 fine and one point on your license34. In the event of a crash, the fine is $150 and three points4.
