John J. Anderson

The Brooklyn Community Volunteer Fire Company wishes to submit the name of 92 year old John J. Anderson for consideration to the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Associaiton Hall of Fame. John became a member of Brooklyn Community Fire Company in July, 1941 and is a life member.

Since joining the Brooklyn Community Volunteer Fire Company, John was appointed Lieutenant in 1951 and Captain in 1956, serving in that position for ten years. John has served on the Board of Governors since 1980, making a total of thirty years on the Board.

John has also been active in the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association serving as a Delegate representing the company for twenty-six years.

Please consider John J. Anderson for recognition in the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association Hall of Fame.

On May 7, 2013 John J. Anderson,age 95, beloved husband of the late Bertha S. Anderson (02-13-2010) after 69 years of marriage. Survived by four children : Paul J. Anderson of Ellicott City, Md., Diane S. Salmon of Linthicum, Md., Gail J. Anderson MD.of Dunkirk, Md., and Gary D. Anderson of Jefferson, Pa. John is survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Originally from Curtis Bay, then 2nd Street in Brooklyn, he moved to Brooklyn Park in 1941upon his marriage to Bertha. He resided there until moving to Linthicum with his daughter in 2005.
John retired as a lead press operator from Western Electric in 1980 after 44 years of service. He was one of the founding fathers of the Brooklyn Park Volunteers Fire Fighters and served as Captain of the Volunteer Fire Company. Until his death, he attended meetings held by the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Fire Companies, and monthly meetings held by the remaining Brooklyn Park Volunteers. He was a founding father of the Brooklyn Park Rod and Gun Club, and an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing in his leisure time. He was a jack of all trades and tackled many home projects/improvements. John was a life long member of St. Rose of Lima Church in Brooklyn.
In his "early years" John played semi-pro football for a Brooklyn Park team that was the predecessor of the Baltimore Eagles. This was in the early years of football when teams played both offense and defense. He was also a pro-wrestler in his early 20's. One of John's yearly hobbies was his Christmas train garden which he set up every year. Kids from the local elementary school would come to visit and enjoy.
Friends may visit at Gonce Funeral Service P.A., 4001 Ritchie Highway on Thursday May 9, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Service on Friday May 10, at 11 am. Interment in Glen Haven Memorial Park,
