Charles “Chuck” H. Austin

We the members of the Earleigh Heights Volunteer Fire Company would like to nominate Charles “Chuck” Austin to the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association Hall of Fame.

 Chuck has been in the fire service since 1960. He has been with the Earleigh Heights Volunteer Fire Company for 32 years. During the 32 years he has held the office of Lieutenant as well as Training Officer, and Corresponding Secretary. Chuck is currently holding the office of President, which he has been holding for 1-1/2 years and has put over 1500 hours in one year. When it comes to fundraisers, Chuck is there to volunteer and help with all aspects of the fundraiser. Chuck starts every carnival season working at least 2 weeks prior to the last night, there are times he puts in 12-14 hours a day if not more to help make our carnival the success that they are.
 
Every Wednesday night you can find Chuck at our Bingo whether it’s his night or not. He is a member of our Ways and Means committee, where he is always here selling tickets for upcoming fundraisers. Chuck is always available to help his fellow volunteers and career personnel no matter what it is or the time of the day.
 
This is why we at the Earleigh Heights Volunteer Fire Company want to nominate him for the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association Hall of Fame for his outstanding volunteer service

 2012 Update: Chuck was active with the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighter’s Association as a regular attendee to the meetings. He served as Sergeant at Arms for the years 2006 and 2007 and as Second Vice President for 2008. He was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 2002. Chuck’s daughter, Tracey, served as President of the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighter’s Association Ladies Auxiliary from 2003-04.
 
 Chuck is also a regular attendee of the Maryland State Firemen’s Association conventions. He is active on the upkeep of the 17 State Circle office in Annapolis. He was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 2009 .

Charles “Chuck” Harry Austin (80), a lifelong resident of Anne Arundel, passed away peacefully on October 18th 2020 at Anne Arundel Medical Center as a result of a short term illness. The son of the late Donald Austin Sr. and May Rines of Altoona, PA.. Born on April 4, 1940 in Altoona, PA., Chuck graduated from Glen Burnie High School. Devoting a lifetime to community service, Chuck volunteered at several Anne Arundel County Fire Departments, owner of C&L Limousine service and employed at McCully-Polyniak Funeral Home in Pasadena, Maryland.

Chuck has served the fire service for many years, starting with the Glen Burnie Volunteer Fire Company in August of 1957, then to Marley Volunteer Fire Company in February of 1965, and then joining Earleigh Heights Volunteer Fire Company (EHVFC) in 1971 where he was currently a life member. With a combine total of 63 years of dedicated service.

Chuck served in many positions with the Earleigh Heights Volunteer Fire Company to include, Lieutenant, Training Officer, Corresponding Secretary, and President. He chaired the Ways and Means committee and was very active with weekly bingos and the annual carnival.

Chuck represented EHVFC as a delegate to the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association for many years. He also held the offices of Sergeant at Arms from 2006-2007, and Second Vice-President in 2008. Chuck was inducted into the AACVFA Hall of Fame in 2002.

Chuck also represented EHVFC as a delegate to the Maryland State Firemen’s Association (MSFA) and was very active with the MSFA. He chaired the 17 State Circle Committee from 2003 to 2012, and was very active in getting donations to the annual golf tournament held each year at the convention and conference in Ocean City, MD. Chuck was inducted into the MSFA Hall of Fame in 2009.

Left to cherish his memory is his daughter Tracey Gearhart and her husband Stan of Glen Burnie, his son Shannon Michael Austin and his wife Katie of Glen Burnie and step-daughter Robin Lehman-Edelen and her husband James of Glen Burnie. He is also survived by adoring grandchildren Joshua Austin-Smith, Jacob Smith and Makenzie Austin. Chuck was a loving brother, father, grandfather, cousin, uncle and friend.
