Patricia A. Rose
Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighter’s Association
Volunteer of the Quarter
February 2020
The officers and members of the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company (OVFC) are extremely proud to nominate our treasurer Patricia A. “Pat” Rose for the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association’s Firefighter/EMT/Administrative Member of the Quarter Award.
Pat’s husband and two of his brothers (one now deceased) are life members of our fire company, and several other members of the Rose family also belong to our organization. Pat for many years had participated alongside her husband and his family members in various fire company activities and fundraising events. Shortly after her two then teenaged children joined OVFC, Pat finally decided to officially become a member herself in 2000. She quickly became involved in training, successfully completing Emergency Medical Technician, Firefighter I, Hazardous Materials and other required courses. Although Pat is fully qualified as an emergency responder, it became clear early on that her real value to our organization are her financial skills and knowledge gained from her career in banking.
Pat Rose has been an integral part of our budget and finance operations for 19 years. She was our Financial Secretary from 2001 to 2005, and Treasurer 2006 to 2009 and again in 2017 to now. She has modernized our financial records and tax filing procedures. She also chairs the Budget and Finance Committee. Pat spends more than twenty hours each week reviewing bills and invoices, preparing checks, making bank deposits, and reconciling accounts. She oversees the preparation of our annual tax returns. She provides a detailed report of incomes and expenditures in dozens of accounts to our Board of Directors and at our monthly membership meetings. She prepares financial reports for fundraising programs in order to evaluate their effectiveness. She maintains necessary records and prepares required reports for various grant awards. Pat also maintains careful scrutiny of the fire company investment portfolio. In summary, Pat Rose is a very dedicated member who keeps our financial house in order.
She works at nearly all of our fundraising events, including bull roasts, crab feats food truck Thursdays, and our annual carnival. At our carnivals, she works as a food concession cashier on each of the seven nights. Pat also serves as an Alternate Delegate to both the AACVFA and the MSFA and regularly attends meetings and conventions. For all of her tireless efforts, Pat was recognized at our annual awards banquet in April 2018 with the President’s Award for outstanding administrative support for the second time.
She is one of our most dedicated members, spending countless hours at the station ensuring “the t’s are crossed, and the i’s are dotted” in all things financial. Many of the younger members look to her for guidance and advice and many of our newer female members look to her as a role model and mentor. She always demonstrates extraordinary enthusiasm in her duties and commitment to her office.
Patricia Rose is a very dedicated, dependable, and valuable member of our fire company, and we proudly submit her for consideration for the Firefighter/EMT/ Administrative Member of the Quarter Award.
Respectfully submitted,
Wylie L. Donaldson, Jr.
Vice President
