Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Assoc.
Outstanding Member of the Quarter Award Committee
It is with a great deal of pride that the name of Charles “Doug “ Braun is presented as a candidate for the Out Standing Member of the Quarter Award. A relatively newcomer to the Fire Service, Doug joined the Earleigh Heights Volunteer Fire Company in February of 2019. In this brief period of time, he has had a substantial impact on the well being and progress of the Fire Company.
Doug has overseen the painting of the entire hall, addressed many of the repair issues and made a complete review of the hall rental contract. Revisions to the contract brought our hall in line with surrounding venues of this nature. Hall rentals provide one of the major sources of revenue for the Company.
Doug was appointed to the position of Administrative Assistant after which he was elected to the position of Treasurer of the Company. Operating as both Hall Manager and Treasurer he is in a unique position that enables him to closely monitor the finances of the Company an provide valuable guidance in the handling of our finances.
During the recent Covid restrictions and the closing of the hall, Doug spearheaded the search for new sources of funding. He negotiated with a medical facility to use the hall parking lot as a Covid testing site which provided us with an invaluable monthly source of income.
He then led the effort in compiling documentation providing a loss/profit statement which resulted in an award from MEMA through the Federal Relief Act of 2021. The award was in the amount of $141,891.37 which was the largest amount awarded to any Fire Company in the state of Maryland.
As the co-chair of the Food Truck project, a winter schedule for the trucks was initiated which proved to be very successful. Through his efforts the upcoming Gun Bash promises to be another successful event.
In his spare time this year, Doug completed and received his certification as an EMT. Soon he will be responding as a member of a crew on Ambulance 129,.
Our candidate for this award, Charles “Doug” Braun has, without a doubt, made an outstanding contribution to the future welfare of Volunteerism within the Earleigh Heights Vol. Fire Co., to Anne Arundel County and to the State of Maryland. He has and continues to set the example!
Respectfully submitted,
Joseph Angyelof, President David Crawford, Fire Chief
