Outstanding Member of the Quarter Award

Purpose:  To recognize one or more company members each calendar quarter that have recently provided outstanding service to their fire company and/or the Association.

Organization:  The President of the Association shall appoint a chairperson of the Outstanding Member of the Quarter Award Committee (“the Committee’) from a member company.  The chairperson will then select committee members from several member companies.

Nomination Criteria: 

1. Nominees must belong to a member company of the Association which is in good standing with the Association.
2. The nominee may either be an administrative member or a responding member.
3. The nominee can not have any departmental, civil or criminal convictions in the last year and have no pending disciplinary actions of any kind.
4. The nomination should recognize outstanding service by a nominee within approximately the last year.  Generally, heroic acts while on duty should be recognized under the Anne Arundel County Fire Department’s Commendation Program and not under this award program.
5. A company may only submit one nomination each quarter, however the nomination may recognize more than one member who have jointly accomplished some activity.

Nomination Process:

1. Nominations must be submitted on company letterhead and signed by the company president or chief.  Generally, a single page is sufficient justification.
2. Nominations should be submitted by email to the Committee’s email address (quarterlyaward@aacvfa.org) or can be hand carried to the Committee Chairperson.
3. Nominations must be received by the Committee at least two weeks before the Association meetings in January, April, July and October.
4. The President of the Association may directly submit a nomination to the Committee.
5. All members of the Committee will review the nominations and vote to determine the winning nominee(s).  The Committee may decide to select more than one winner if their accomplishments are comparable.
6. The Chairperson will notify the President of the Association of the winning nomination(s).
7. The Committee Chairperson will notify the company of the winning nominee(s) and arrange to have nominee(s) present at the next Association meeting to receive his/her award.

Awards Recognition:

1. The winning nominee(s) will receive an engraved trophy and commendation ribbon at the Association meeting.
2. The Committee will publicize the winner(s) and his/her accomplishments on the Association’s website and appropriate social media platforms.  The winner’s home company is encouraged to also publicize their member’s award in local media.
3. The winner(s) name will be added to the perpetual Quarterly Award plaque on display at the Association Office, or another appropriate location.
