Maj. John Edward Rothamel, Sr. born February 13, 1930, passed on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at the age of 95.
John was raised on the farm on the Magothy River by his Lithuanian mother Mary and German father William along with his brother William and sisters Catherine and Mary, all proceeding him into spirit. John met his wife Margaret (nee Teal, deceased) of 44 years and they married in 1948 when he also joined the Air Force and served for 26 years. John and Margaret had 6 children who survive them; Margaret, Claudia, Barbara, John, William (Bill), and Maria in order.
Throughout his life, John was a volunteer fire fighter, architect, civil engineer, plumber, electrician, carpenter, inventor, innovator, business man, poet, and an avid waterman. John designed parts of the original community of Crofton in Maryland, housing developments in Las Delicias, Puerto Rico, and numerous homes and office buildings throughout Maryland. He formed and ran Revell Square Water company sanitizing and providing water to over 600 homes. He founded KOR-KO-LTD in 1986 which sanitized water pipelines for large municipalities. John was a Charter Captain and was always connected with the water in some way throughout his life. He was a founding member and the second Chief of the Lake Shore Volunteer Fire Company.
Together, John and Margaret have 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
There will be a private family visitation on May 5th at 9:30am at Stallings Funeral Home in Pasadena, MD with subsequent burial at the Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, MD. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in John’s name to either Hospice of the Chesapeake or Lake Shore Volunteer Fire Company.
